‘Tis the season to be… busy!

Posted by Kevin - December 9th, 2005

Hi! Kevin here, taking my first tentative steps into the land of blog.

I’m a member of the choir, and have been since the summer. I’m one of the most recent additions to the choir, having joined as a result of the last round of auditions, and it’s been a great few months. From my first ‘gig’ with Riverdance, to performing on the main stage at Electric Picnic, through to our national tour, it’s been constant and gruelling, but it’s been extremely enjoyable, and worth every minute spent rehearsing and travelling to and from the venues.

The reason is simple: it’s the music. I wasn’t a particular fan of gospel before I joined but since I started with the choir, I’ve just been completely won over by the music, to the extent that I rarely listen to anything else (although the new Girls Aloud album has been on pretty constant rotation this week… but that’s another blog). There is something inherent in these songs which gives me a lift, and takes me out of the problems or the concerns I might have that day… And it’s really quite incredible to perform and see the same thing happening in the audience. Seeing an entire theatre smiling, dancing or raising their hands is really special, and I’m very grateful to play a small part in making that happen.

December has been a particularly hectic month for us, with all sorts of gigs happening - in the past few days the choir has been singing at Our Lady’s Hospital in Crumlin, at one of our Nights of Soul in Rathdrum and at Barretstown. As well as all this, we’re preparing for the final two nights of our Revelation Tour, in Tallaght’s Civic Theatre on the 16th and 17th of the month. Both nights are completely sold out, and I hear from the other choir members that the Civic gigs are always great fun, so I can’t wait for those!

Before I go, major congratulations to John Legend on picking up 8 Grammy nominations this week - we performed two songs with him at his recent Vicar St gig, and he and his entire tour crew were great to us. It was such a thrill to be up there with him - the guy’s an absolute… star (glad I didn’t go for the easy gag there)!

Here’s a photo of us with the man himself, if you didn’t see it in our site gallery.

That’s enough from me for the time being I think…!
