For more than 10 years the Dublin Gospel Choir has been visiting parishes all over
the country, bringing its message and ministry to the young, and not so young, people
of Ireland. If your community or parish is trying to attract young people, why not
use a medium that they can relate to, participate in and enjoy?
What is a Night of Soul?
A Night of Soul is what the Dublin Gospel Choir call our very successful program
of church concerts and music ministry. Over the lifetime of the group, the Dublin
Gospel Choir has held Nights of Soul in more than 60 parishes across the Archdiocese
of Dublin, as well as many more around the country. The night comprises a two-hour
performance of gospel music and ministry aimed specifically at inviting our young
people (of all ages) to an experience at which they can feel at home. If you are
looking for a spirit-filled, joyful event for the young people of your community
then this is for you. Our preacher for the night is Brother Richard Hendrick, a
Capuchin Franciscan priest and chaplain to the choir. Richard is currently the Director
of Youth Ministry for the Capuchins in Ireland and has a very successful ministry
to youth at both second and third levels.
Can our local young people get involved?
While the main part of the Night of Soul program is the ministry of the Dublin choir
through its music we actively encourage local choirs, music and drama groups and
schools to come along and perform as part of the night, thus enabling your young
people to feel a validated part of the Parish and to bring the local community together
in a celebration of their young people.
How do I fund a Night of Soul?
Funding for a Night of Soul may be raised in a number of ways. The main funding
will come through ticket sales and door receipts. Sponsorship, donations and some
local advertising are also used to fund these events. We in the Dublni Gospel Choir
will give you every assistance to successfully plan, advertise and fundraise for
your Night of Soul. We are available to meet with clergy and parish councils to
further discuss the possibility and logistics of hosting a Night of Soul in your
parish.
